Korg Wavestation Performances - Part VIII "The Return" ====================================================== (04/10/96) This is my sixth bank of patches uploaded to the net - the first was BENS_WS3.ZIP and so on up to BENS_WS8.ZIP. All data remains the copyright of me (Ben Hall) - see below. BENS_WS8.SYX is a raw sysex format file containing some more of my Wavestation sounds to add to your collections. There are 20 performances in this library, and all should work on any WS (ie the WS, EX, A/D and SR). The SoundDiver format library version of this bank is called BENS_WS8.LIB, and the midifile format version is BENS_WS8.MID. They are addressed to RAM1, and should be transmitted to a WS listening on MIDI channel 1. The SYX file is raw sysex data and needs to be transmitted via the MIDI OUT to the WS. For PC users, Cakewalk will load these files, or you can try one of the two shareware WS editors (found in ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/music/emagic/SOUNDDIVER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation/WS_Editors/ ) Mac users can use Bulk Sysex 1.02 (it's around the net), and Atari users should use Dump-It! (contact me, or try micros.hensa.ac.uk) Of course most sequencers will read and transmit the midifile versions of the bank, so these may be more convenient. All of my other WS sounds (and others besides) can be found in ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/music/emagic/SOUNDDIVER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation/ in Diver/, Midifiles/ and Syx/ directories. At the time of writing this the Wavestation Mailing List has died once again. Third time lucky..? Hopefully I will put on the net most of the patches I make (not enough people do this, for mostly understandable reasons). If anyone has any nice WS patches they want to bung in my direction, please do! You are free to use these patches in any way you please, upload them anywhere etc etc. Please keep this text file with the bank. This bank is: Copyright 1996 Ben Hall If you use these or any of my other patches on any commercial recordings, it'd be nice if you could drop me a line and tell me, or better still, send me a free copy... :) - Ben Hall ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM-01 00 'Bladerunner *' This is a nice big soundtrack drone. Hold a key on the bottom octaves and let the reverb drone on. The mod wheel fades down this sound. Aftertouch brings in a little repeating arpeggio thing which pans about the stereo image, and the joystick y-axis controls a resonance effect. This would have been one of my entries in the Soundtracks patch archive but since the mailing list died there hasn't been much activity on the patch archive front... RAM-01 01 'Tinkle Bells *' This is a kind of wind chime effect. It sounds especially nice if you glissando up and down the keyboard and have the sound really low in the mix - it gives a track a nice tinkly top end - a bit 'Disney'... RAM-01 02 'I Like These! *' Another echoey arpeggio-type thing, that sounds nice when you play off the echoes. The timbre-changes happen automaticaly but you can override this by playing with the joystick, nd the mod wheel dampens down the filter. RAM-01 03 '1-bar arpegg. *' The same as the previous performance, but holding down the key plays an arpeggio. RAM-01 04 'Nu-man-esque *' Cool polyphonic lead/pad sound, reminiscent to Gary Numan's trademark lead solos on the fadeouts of his early stuff. RAM-01 05 'Fractate *' Another echoey arpeggio-type sound - I'll get bored of these soon, I promise... :) The mod wheel fades up a fifth. RAM-01 06 'Pitchdiver *' Echoey sine pad that pitches downwards. Quite nice as a little background thing. RAM-01 07 'Futurascape *' Ambient spacey breathy sound. Aftertouch fades down the breathy part and introduces a random lfo thing. The mod wheel fades up a repeating, erm, thing (hey, it's late, and I'm running out of adjectives... :) There's also a periodic repeating sequence in there somewhere as well. RAM-01 08 'It's Chiffy! 3*' This performance works equally well as a lead/melody part or as a pad. The mod wheel cranks up the effects. RAM-01 09 'Chopwheel pad *' Another one of my little trademarks, I love these. The majority of the keyboard plays a nice moving pad, but you won't hear anything unless you hold/tap one of the bottom 6 keys (C1 to F1). C1 Staccato blip C#1 Repeating 16th notes D1 Longer single fading out note D#1 Gate note. E1 & F1 Two more 16 note sequences The mod wheel fades down the trigger level. RAM-01 10 'Strangeways *' Sad thin echoey sound that bends up for the note. RAM-01 11 'X-Files *' Yup, good eerie soundtrack stuff! The bottom two white notes on the keyboard trigger very X-Files-ey sound FX, and the rest of the keyboard is given over to modified presets, mainly pads and eerie noises. Aftertouch fades in the famous WS wispy wavesequence. Another Film/Soundtrack entry... RAM-01 12 'VS Arpeg 16ths*' Sixteenth-note sequence that readily syncs to midi. Mod wheel fades up the reverberant tail. RAM-01 13 'Squidgmosphere*' Straight in to the 'weird fx' category, this one has few practical uses, but hey..! :) This is a huge reverb wash, with the mod wheel controlling the pahes amount - hold a note and sweep this up and down. RAM-01 14 'Ecstatic *' Modern dancey kind of sound. RAM-01 15 'Dead PPG... *' Single mallet-ey type sound that sweeps through various wave-timbres. RAM-01 16 'Clangers *' Ambient, spacey, echoey pad. The mod wheel fades up the clangers. RAM-01 17 'Looney Tunes *' Echoey (again..!) sound that plays different pitches depending on the velocity. Nice for arpeggios with a semi-random element - it plays notes that you normally wouldn't, and can give some nice surprises. RAM-01 18 'PanicAttakk! *' Aarrghh!! Here come the Daleks! RED ALERT! PANIC STATIONS!! RAM-01 19 'Blipsequence *' Syncable little 16th-note sequence, very John Carpenter "Halloween"-ey kind of thing. Useful as part of a backing track. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope you can find a use for 'em.
