Korg Wavestation Patch Archive 01 - Theme 'Techno' ================================================== (03/12/95) This is the first result of the Patch Archive on the Korg Wavestation mailing list. Hopefully it will run for a while, and we'll see more people contributing. For now, enjoy this first bank of user patches. As the level of contributions was fairly small, I've submitted a few extra sounds for this archive. They are set to load into RAM Bank 1, on Midi channel 1. There are Raw Sysex, Midifile and Sound Diver versions of this bank. You can find them in: ftp.dir.mcc.ac.uk pub/emagic/SOUNDSURFER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation Please mail me (benj@city.ac.uk) with your vote on your favourite patch in this bank during the beginning of December - the author of the most voted patch will get immortalised on the Wavestation web pages. On the net: Places of interest Contributors to this bank are: Mikael Lundgren, Brent Wood, Pat Thompson, Ben Hall, Owain F Pedgley, Norsez Orankij-anant, Paul Nagle, Sander Wesseling, and Rainer Heesen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Overdose Bass Author : Owain F Pedgley Sound Type : Bass, velocity-switched, slightly analogue, percussive Location : RAM1 - 00 Patches Used : AnaVelBass, Syn Bass1 (ROM) Waveseqs Used : TwinCRO, TwinPUL Requirements : Original non-EX Wavestation Date : 22 November 1995 Comments : I would not normally program something which would fall in the category of 'tecno', but I have had a stab at trying to make a 'different' bass sound which has timbral changes modulated by key velocity: Wavesequnce starting point, filter cut-off and gated reverb effect slot 2 kicking in. Tips on playing: The joystick controls mix (as normal), with a more percussive element being introduced when positioned fully to the left. The patch is great if you play short stabby single notes around C2/C3 with the joystick in this position, but remember to change velocity! For 'normal' playing, hit the keys fairly lightly (joystick mid-way) and occassionally press them harder to introduce the reverb. It's worth replacing the delay/room slot 1 effect with one of your own choice. Flanger and Distortion work particularly well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Teknow? Q6 Author : Pat Thompson Sound Type : Techno Riff Location : Patches Used : BLAH-BLAH, TekMore, BLIH-BLIH, BLEH-BLEH WaveSeqs Used : TecBass, Tekkik, Tekperk, TekHat, TekStab, TekFlut, MorStab, TekBlok, TekBlo2. Requirements : EX Date : 11-25-95 Comments : This definitely falls into the "one note symphony" category, (preferably the lowest note on the EX keyboard), though it can be "played" a bit. It's a big, throbbing (IMHO :-)) drumbeat and bassline with other percussion cycling in and out. After you listen to the groove for a minute fade in the warped out stabs with aftertouch. Some of it's 2/4, some is 3/4, but the overall phrase is 6/4. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Push It Author : Brent Wood Sound Type : Vocal Location : RAM1 - 02 Patches Used : Pushit WaveSeqs Used : Pushit, Pushit2 Requirements : EX Date : 11/30/95 Comments : This is a voice saying "push it". Velocity changes the rate and inflection. Mod wheel adds pitch shifting for a more "electronic" sound which can be modulated by aftertouch. (Compiler's note: If you play this on a normal WS, the sample for the 'P' in 'Push' is missing, so the patch sounds more like "Oh Shit!" Nice work Brent!) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name : Blueprint Author : Mikael Lundgren - Carbon Productions Sound Type : Bass, Blip, Blop, Resonant synth Location : RAM1 - 03 Patches Used : Blueprint WaveSeqs Used : VelWet Requirements : EX Date : 30 Nov 1995 Comments : This patch makes for a quite decent emulation of the classic analog velocity controlled resonant synth. It uses the technique with static wavesequence programming using velocity and keyboard position as modulation sources. A slight overdrive is added, and the 'hot spot' can be modulated with the wheel to make the sound breathe further. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: oFFend-R Author : Sander Wesseling Sound Type : Solo lead Techno detune Location : RAM1 - 04 Patches Used : offend (new) WaveSeqs Used : *BentMin (SR ROM7:12) Requirements : Plain WS Date : 22 Nov 1995 Comments : WOW! This is my first real attempt editing a WS, hope you like it :) This is performance sounds good in every octave: 1. lower octaves it gives a dark & heavy type of techno sound. Only use in chords if you know what you are doing! (and you know don't you, else you wouldn't own a wavestation ... :) ) 2. middle: the real 'lead' sound. 3. higher octaves, a happy sound, probably suitable for fast 'happy hardcore' tracks. (somehow it reminds me of Mickey Mouse :) I mostly play it with short stabs, preventing it from running trough it's wavesequence. Adjust the durations for faster/slower melodies. Velocity brings on some variation in the played melody (it makes the oscillator start further on in the waveseq, if i'm correct) The performance uses 1 effect (pingpongdelay), but it will live on a just general reverb too. [rev 1.0] Legal stuff: well none really, do with it what you want. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: MY303 Bass Author : Rainer Heesen Sound Type : TB303 Simulation Location : RAM1 - 05 Patches Used : MY303, Puls WaveSeqs Used : - Requirements : Plain WS Date : 27 Nov 1995 Comments : This is an TB303 simulation; wheel changes filter cutoff. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Rapid Staccato Author : Norsez Orankij-anant, u3510329@au.ac.th Sound Type : Techno, Trance and Ambient (?) Staccato (or maybe Pad too) Location : RAM1 - 06 Patches Used : StringWave WaveSeqs Used : - Requirements : - Date : 6 Nov 1995 Comments : This patch should be played in 16th or 32nd notes (at about 130 up bmp) for the most effective effect. Maybe you can use it as a pad too but it may prove boring. 'Rapid Staccato' will not play piano-forte but the harder you press the key, the brighter the timbre is. I think we hear this kind of sound quite often by the way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: T-arc 27 * Author : Ben Hall Sound Type : Pad, Techno, Sequence Location : RAM1 - 07 Patches Used : Techon-x, Stringy, Hi Arpeg WaveSeqs Used : T-J1, T-J2, T-J3, T-J4, String, Arpeg Requirements : Plain WS Date : 4th November 1995 Comments : This performance was programmed especially for this first Patch Archive. In the top half of the keyboard, a nice pad plays, with lots of reverb. In the bottom half of the keyboard, a mono rhythmic wavesequence plays (you can isolate the sequence elements using the joystick). There is a really long, slow phaser at work, which sounds best with sustained chords. The string pad thing has a rather strange attack - playing staccato arpeggios brings out a nice reverbed shimmer in the upper keyboard range. In addition, aftertouch or the mod wheel brings a third sequence element, a high arpeggio. You can sync this to MIDI clock and jam along! You may want to change the arpeg sequence to something a bit more in key with what you are playing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Sort Of Yuck Author : Paul Nagle Sound Type : Lead, Distorted, Echo, Mono Location : RAM1 - 08 Patches Used : Zappo WaveSeqs Used : - Requirements : Synth & Timeslice PCM Card Date : Comments : If anyone should use these commercially (well, you never know), all I require is a programming credit which is all vanity I know but some of these sounds took literally minutes of my time..... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Digilog Author : Ben Hall Sound Type : Lead, Bass Location : RAM1 - 09 Patches Used : D-log WaveSeqs Used : Dee-One, Dee-Two Requirements : Plain WS Date : 27th November 1995 Comments : Straightforward synth lead or bass. Nothing in the way of performance controls. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Techy 2 Author : Ben Hall Sound Type : Techno, Sequence, Phased Location : RAM1 - 10 Patches Used : T-time WaveSeqs Used : Base, Other Requirements : Plain WS Date : 27th November 1995 Comments : 16th note sequence with some other blippy bits. Phaser techo-ises it a bit. Sync-2-Midi to sequence. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: S and H Author : Ben Hall Sound Type : Analog, Sequence Location : RAM1 - 11 Patches Used : S and H WaveSeqs Used : WSTouch Requirements : Plain WS Date : 24th November 1995 Comments : Kind of blippy sample and hold (-ish!) sequence. Again, useful when synced to Midi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Reflects Author : Ben Hall Sound Type : Lead, Wet Location : RAM1 - 12 Patches Used : Reffer WaveSeqs Used : - Requirements : Plain WS Date : 31st November 1995 Comments : Techno-ish lead with a gated reverb effect which modernises it. Play short staccato lead lines. The joystick gives some tonal variation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance Name: Reflex Author : Ben Hall Sound Type : Lead, Echo Location : RAM1 - 13 Patches Used : Reffer WaveSeqs Used : - Requirements : Plain WS Date : 31st November 1995 Comments : This uses the same patch as above, but uses different effects to give a somewhat different sound. The joystick again fades between four separate waves to introduce some tonal variation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
