Korg Wavestation Patch Archive 03 - Theme 'Percussion' ====================================================== (02/05/96) ** WARNING ** This bank overwrites *BOTH* RAM1 and RAM2 banks. You should save any important data before sending this to your WS. ** WARNING ** This is the third Patch Archive bank, compiled from user-submitted patches from the WS mailing list guys. There are 15 performances in this bank (they use both patch banks entirely because of the complexity of some of the patches), and they're set to load into RAM Bank 1 AND RAM Bank 2, on Midi channel 1. There are Raw Sysex, Midifile and Sound Diver versions of this bank. You can find them in: ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/music/emagic/SOUNDSURFER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation or look at the Trading Post web site: http://www.his.com/~ricks/trading.html Submission details for further patch archives can be found on: http://www.city.ac.uk/~cb170/ws_subs.html Please mail me (benj@city.ac.uk) with your vote on your single favourite patch in this bank during the first few weeks it's made available for downloading - the author of the most voted patch will get immortalised on the Wavestation web pages! Contributors to this bank are: Brent Wood, Bruno Negri, Ben Hall, Norsez Orankij-anant, Paul Nagle, George Barna, and John Mark Seck. Once again, thanks go to all contributors who made this bank possible. If you haven't submitted anything yet but intend to, check out the current theme and make your contributions. All welcome, whatever your style/talent/taste thresholds are. Enjoy the bank! ============================================================================ Performance Name: Perky Author : John Mark Seck Sound Type : Percussion Location : RAM1-00 Patches Used : 8 in total, Groove 1 - Groove 8 WaveSeqs Used : 8 in totat, Op 1 - Op 1 Requirements : WS Date : Feb. 23, 1996 Comments : I tried as much as possible(and I think succeeded) to use sounds that were available to all the wavestation models. This patch is a bit outside. I have always wanted to write a one of this type that used many different wavesequences. This one I admit has gotten a little crazy. I've tried to blend traditional and non-traditional perc sounds together. ============================================================================ Performance Name: AnalogRhythmSet Author : Bruno Negri Sound Type : Drums Set + Bass Location : RAM1-01 Patches Used : AnalogBD, AnalogCHH, AnalogOHH, AnalogSD, ElecSD, ElecTom, Mini Bass1 WaveSeqs Used : - Requirements : EX Date : 28-02-1996 Comments : This is a splitted performance. The rest of the keyboard plays a looping arpeggio that is run through a vocoder. The Joystick X-axis controls the timbre of the arpeggio, and the mod wheel (in small amounts) modulates the vocoder to let more of the sound through. As the arpeggio is also modulated yb the same drum sequence as played on the bottom notes, the level changes are in sync with the drum pattern. You may want to try deliberately running them out of sync (well, start them at different times rather than both on the downbeat. This gives some nice syncopations). There is also a percussivey 'blat' on the top few keys that can be played either as a one-shot sound or a little looping wave sequence in time with the drum pattern. ============================================================================ Performance Name: D&B * Author : Ben Hall (benj@city.ac.uk) Sound Type : Drums, Sequence Location : RAM1-03 Patches Used : S and H, DB1, DB2, DB3, DB4 WaveSeqs Used : WSTouch, DB-2, DB-3, DB-4, DB-5, DB-6 Requirements : WS Date : March 1996 Comments : The low C note plays a little drum pattern (bd, snre and hats). In the bottom octave another looping sequence is triggered, with it's filters being changed with the modulation wheel. Another similar sequence is brought in with high-velocity playing (across the whole of the keyboard). ============================================================================ Performance Name: Razor Jam * Author : Ben Hall (benj@city.ac.uk) Sound Type : Lead, Percussion, Jam Location : RAM1-09 Patches Used : Razor, Jam WaveSeqs Used : RJ1, RJ2, RJ3, RJ4, RJ5 Requirements : WS Date : March 1996 Comments : Most of the keyboard plays a synth lead, with the bottom octave-and-a-bit playing a percussive sequence. ============================================================================ Performance Name: Total Rhythmus Author : George Barna Sound Type : Percussive sequences Location : RAM1-10 Patches Used : CrazyHip1,CrazyHip3,CrazyHip4,CrazyHip5 CrazyHip6,CrazyHip7,CrazyHip8,CrazyHip10 Wave Seqs Used: TRseq1,TRseq3,TRseq4.TRseq5,TRseq6, TRseq7,TRseq8,TRseq9,TRseq10 Requirements : EX Date : February 1996 Comments : This performance uses a number of variations on a few basic patterns mapped across the keyboard. The mapping is rather arbitrary and can be modified to fit your style/preference. Here is a rundown of the keyboard mapping: C2-C2,D2-B2,C3-C3,D3-C4,C4-C5,C5-C6,C6-B6,C7-C7 One possibility is using the C2 and/or the C3 pattern as a basic pattern with the others dropping in/out but as you will soon discover there are many more. Notice the keys mapped to 2 adjacent patterns for more complex one-key rhythms. D2-B2 is a 4 oscillator patch, use the joystick for pattern variation. Mod wheel adds/removes reverb. Prize will be awarded to those who find out why this is named 'Total Rhythmus'.Enjoy! ============================================================================ Performance Name: Mixed Percussion Author : Brent Wood Sound Type : Percussion Location : RAM1-11 Patches Used : Noisy Hit, Heavy Sigh, Low Metal Pluck, High Metal Pluck, Howling Metal, Swirl, Swirl2 WaveSeqs Used : Nonharm (2), Swirl, Swirl2 Requirements : EX Date : 3/5/96 Comments : This performance is a bank of sounds perhaps useful for 20th century composition or industrial music. Sounds included are resonant plucked strings, a couple of high-pitched hits, and some distorted metallic howling. The performance is mapped for an 88 note keyboard. Guaranteed to annoy the neighbors and/or family. ============================================================================ Performance Name: Safaris Author : George Barna Sound Type : Percussive sequences Location : RAM1-12 Patches Used : Safari,CrazyHip4,CrazyHip9 WaveSeqs Used : TRseq4,TRseq9,Wavetune,Cloops Requirements : WS Date : April 1996 Comments : Slightly melodic percussive sequence.
