Not Another bank of my Korg Wavestation Performances! ===================================================== (12/06/96) This is my fifth bank of patches uploaded to the net - the first was BENS_WS3.ZIP and so on up to BENS_WS7.ZIP. All data remains the copyright of me (Ben Hall) - see below. BENS_WS7.SYX is a raw sysex format file containing some more of my Wavestation sounds to add to your collections. There are 25 performances in this library, and all should work on any WS (ie the WS, EX, A/D and SR). The SoundDiver format library version of this bank is called BENS_WS7.LIB, and the midifile format version is BENS_WS7.MID. They are addressed to RAM1, and should be transmitted to a WS on Midi channel 1. Hopefully I will put on the net most of the patches I make (not enough people do this, for mostly understandable reasons). If anyone has any nice WS patches they want to bung in my direction, please do! You are free to use these patches in any way you please, upload them anywhere etc etc. Please keep this text file with the bank. This bank is: Copyright 1996 Ben Hall If you use these or any of my other patches on any commercial recordings, it'd be nice if you could drop me a line and tell me, or better still, send me a free copy... :) - Ben Hall ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM-02 00 'Arpeg-e8 *' Echoey synth lead sound with a slight pitch bend attack, and a bit of timbral modulation from an LFO applied to the vector envelope. Quite god for arpeggios. RAM-02 01 'Voco-aahs *' This was just an experiment with the vocoders, really. It consists of a rhythmic wave sequence applied to a vocal pad. RAM-02 02 'Vocosequence01*' Another vocoder experiment, with one sound modulating another. Playing sixteenth note arpeggios using the full range of the keyboard give nice vocoder tonal characteristics - very ELO... RAM-02 03 'Trance-s28 *' Hold a note on the bottom octave or so of the keyboard, and you'll hear a sixteenth note wave sequence. Now fade up the mod wheel which brings in a trancey analog-style echoey sequence. The top half of the keyboard plays another wave sequence which can be mixed in. Sync-to-midi and up the tempo and jam! RAM-02 04 'Syndy *' Another wave sequencey type-thing. RAM-02 05 'Mono-poly *' Mono-duo lead sound which uses two parts with different legato treatment to get a mono lead, or alternatively two duo lines. RAM-02 06 'Arr-pe-gee-o *' Split performance with an arpeggio-ey wavesequence in the lower half, and a crossfading synth pad in the top half of the keyboard. RAM-02 07 'Volswell Lead *' Lead/pad sound that starts of quietly and is faded in with aftertouch for a neat swell effect (like the trick of fading in the volume knob that guitarists use). Alternatively you can fade up the mod wheel which increases the volume but you then lose the swell effect. RAM-02 08 'Teqno Jam *' Another split performance with a percusivy/bass sequence on the lower half, and an echoey crossfading lead/pad sound in the top half. RAM-02 09 'Wetwave Lead *' Mono lead sound with gallons of effects. RAM-02 10 'Highly Strung *' String pad with a synthy metallic attack. RAM-02 11 'Mod-ular 16ths*' I like this one a lot. It simulates the kind of sample and hold effect found on many analogue and modular synths. Aftertouch closes down the filter, and the mod wheel increases the flange effect for a kind of ring-modulated effect, and the joystick A-C axis changes the tone. Also, playing up and down the keyboard affects how bright the sequence is. Again, this one syncs to midi. RAM-02 12 'Seekwence 32s *' Another kind of techo wave sequence. RAM-02 13 'Seekwence *' Techno/dance synth sound. RAM-02 14 'Go West *' This is inspired by Go West's "We Close Our Eyes" single back in the mid-80s, which had a big synth part playing the main riff. Mod wheel and aftertouch introduce some LFO modulation. RAM-02 15 'Ben's Sine Pad*' Nice smooth sine pad. RAM-02 16 'Filter Pad 2 *' Similar to the above performance, but aftertouch increases the filter cut-off. RAM-02 17 'Opus III *' This performance is one for the arpegio freaks of us out there! Basically, there's an arpeggiating part that plays on the middle half of the keyboard, that pans left and right while playing (or you can use the joystick A-C axis to pan it manually). Aftertouch modulates a phaser effect that gives a nice squelchy effect, and the phaser is fed into a reverb so that the phaser squelch modulates the sound of the reverberant tail as well. The mod wheel closes the filter on the arpeggiating part, and the joystick B-D axis controls the reverb level (fully down is dry and fully up is soaking wet). There is another sequency part that plays on the bottom half of the keyboard playing wavesequencey 16th notes, and the top octave plays a belly sound, useful for accents. Also (yup, there's still more!) the pitch bend wheel has a cool effect. The straight 16th note sequence and one of the arpeggiating parts will bend up/down one octave, but the other arpeggiating part bends up/down a fifth, which gives a nice effect to the arpeggios. Try it! RAM-02 18 'Angel Walla *' Vocal pad with random angelic voices. Wop the mod wheel up and the vox bend up and down. Nice for a background effect. You could also take out the pad patch for a more abstract effect. RAM-02 19 'Mirage *' Dry synth pad which uses the vocoder for its timbre. RAM-02 20 'Vocosequence02*' Like Vocosequence01 but with a different set of patches and a more pronounced effect. Again, sounds best when you hop all over the keyboard for a really nice vocoder effect. RAM-02 21 'Ambivere *' Nice ambient fifths pad. Higher velocities bring in an organ-ey sound, for no other good reason except that I liked it... :) RAM-02 22 'Diddy Thing *' Little echoey sequence thing that works quite nicely as a little musical punctuation mark (if you understand me...) RAM-02 23 'Marble Bounce?*' A sound effect that speeds up and explodes..! (?) RAM-02 24 'Kitchen Sync *' Lead sound, with a big sync-bend - the mod wheel increases this further, with afterouch introducing some vibrato. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope you can find a use for 'em. Enjoy! Unashamed plug: EMAGIC's SoundDiver is by far the best generic sysex management software available (IMHO). Check out the EMAGIC stuff on the net: http://www.mcc.ac.uk/~emagic/emagic_page.html ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/music/emagic Unashamed plug #2: If you are an Atari ST/TT/Falcon user of more modest means and need a sysex dumper program, get my own Dump It! program. It's free, and is rather nice (ahem). (It's also not quite released yet - yes, still!, 'cos I keep adding things.... :) --------------------------------------------------- |> | | WWW: http://www.city.ac.uk/~cb170 |> E |\| |-| /\ |_ |_ EMAIL: benj@city.ac.uk ---------------------------------------------------
