Korg Wavestation Performances - Part IV "The Ressurrection" =========================================================== (04/11/96) This is my seventh bank of patches uploaded to the net - the first was BENS_WS3.ZIP and so on up to BENS_WS9.ZIP. All data remains the copyright of me (Ben Hall) - see below. BENS_WS9.SYX is a raw sysex format file containing some more of my Wavestation sounds to add to your collections. There are 29 performances in this library, and all should work on any WS (ie the WS, EX, A/D and SR). The SoundDiver format library version of this bank is called BENS_WS9.LIB, and the midifile format version is BENS_WS9.MID. They are addressed to RAM1, and should be transmitted to a WS on Midi channel 1. The SYX file is raw sysex data and needs to be transmitted via the MIDI OUT to the WS. For PC users, Cakewalk will load these files, or you can try one of the two shareware WS editors (found in ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/music/emagic/SOUNDDIVER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation/WS_Editors/ ). In addition there are various sysex programs around, try WinSysex 3.0 or Dumpster for Windows that should do the job. Mac users can use Bulk Sysex 1.02 (it's around the net), and Atari users should use Dump-It! (contact me, or try micros.hensa.ac.uk) Of course most sequencers will read and transmit the midifile versions of the bank, so these may be more convenient. All of my other WS sounds (and others besides) can be found in ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/music/emagic/SOUNDDIVER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation/ in Diver/, Midifiles/ and Syx/ directories, and also on the Trading Post on the web in sysex format. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The Wavestation mailing list is back up again (yay!) at a new address: wavestation@cloudfactory.org To subscribe, send a mail to majordomo@cloudfactory.org with the body text "subscribe wavestation", or "subscribe wavestation-digest" (without the quotes). Come join the fun! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hopefully I will put on the net most of the patches I make (not enough people do this, for mostly understandable reasons). If anyone has any nice WS patches they want to bung in my direction, please do! You are free to use these patches in any way you please, upload them anywhere etc etc. Please keep this text file with the bank. This bank is: Copyright 1996 Ben Hall If you use these or any of my other patches on any commercial recordings, it'd be nice if you could drop me a line and tell me, or better still, send me a free copy... :) - Ben Hall ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM-01 00 'Phasewash *' Smooth plucky lead/pad sound, with a deep moving phaser. The mod wheel raises the pitch of one oscillator so that when it's fully up the perf has a more oriental feel. As well as the joystick's more usual function of controlling the mix between oscillators, the y-axis controlls the depth of the reverb. RAM-01 01 'Tinkle Seq. *' This is a nice echoey looping sequence of spangly wind chimes. RAM-01 02 'Chorale *' Very wet, reverberant choir pad. RAM-01 03 'Cacara *' Lead sound with early reflections attack. RAM-01 04 'Diddy 1 *' RAM-01 05 'Diddy 2 *' Looping sequence with various effects. The mod wheel modulatesd the phaser. If you can find a legitimate use for these, then you must be making weird music... :) RAM-01 06 'K-formant *' Pitch interval lead sound. Nothing special. RAM-01 07 'Thing 01 *' Eighth-note wave sequence with delay. RAM-01 08 'Flangeo *' Another version of the earlier diddy noises. Yes: completely useless. Cool! RAM-01 09 'An Split *' Splitted performance, with an digi/analog bass and a thick, smooth analog lead sound. Mod wheel does vibrato. RAM-01 10 'Brassics *' Squelchy brass sound, with an envelope modulating the mid frequency of the parametric eq effect for the extra squelch. RAM-01 11 'Ecstatic 2 *' Modern dancey synth noise, with a mild echo. Increasing the mod wheel increases the filter cutoff. RAM-01 12 'Paralendrax *' Nice, slow evolving atmospheric spacey pad. Hold a couple of notes and hit the sustain pedal and just chill out, man! RAM-01 13 'Nu-man-esque 2*' Mono crossfading lead, similar to the "Mini Lead" preset in style. RAM-01 14 'Werks *' It gets really hard to think of useful descriptions for this sort of stuff! Erm, flangey wave sequence, with the mod wheel making the flanger go into overdrive. RAM-01 15 'Lurkers *' My Babylon 5 tribute. The main keyboard plays a smooth cross-fading pad, with the top octave and a half doing a breathy chiffy echoey chiffy chiff-type chiffy chiff kind of a chiff sound. RAM-01 16 'Digi-Squidge *' Think of a really cheap and nasty digital 303, and make the mod wheel control the resonance and this is what you get. RAM-01 17 'Digi-Squidge2 *' Same as above but with a longer release time, making it more suitable for chordal work. This one might make the FX clip a bit but I'll leave it as an excercise for you to play with. RAM-01 18 'Prophet VS *' Vector-attack lead/pad sound, with a slow crossfade as well. Does this sound like a VS? Dunno, I don't have one... RAM-01 19 'Electric Vox *' Electric guitar with a sustained vocal pad beneath. The guitar sound has a pitch bend of one tone triggered by aftertouch, so you can play two handed and still do some funky bends. Reminds me of Bergerac (UK TV program set in Jersey), but I don't know why... RAM-01 20 'Tangent One *' RAM-01 21 'Tangent Two *' RAM-01 22 'Tangent Three *' RAM-01 23 'Tangent Four *' These four are all the same performance but with different effects settings. These are all arpeggio heaven! The performance has a number of tonally different sounds mapped across the keyboard. High velocities also bring in a random percussive sound. The mod wheel brings in a crossfading bass in the lower section of the keyboard (aftertouch closes the filter on this), and a breathy chiffy sound on the upper section. Tangent One is the 'standard' one. Tangent Two has a LFO-swept phaser. Funky! Tangent Three has a thick chorus-ey tone Tangent Four - my favourite. The compressor/gate FX is rapidly becoming one of my favourite effects. You guessed it, this one is compressed and gated, and it gives a nice effect on arpeggios and other rhythmic playing. You can get a nice Edge-ey guitar effect by playing eighth-note chords in time with the delays... RAM-01 24 'Werks 2 *' Slightly tamer version of Werks. RAM-01 25 'Pluck Off! *' Plucked harmonics. RAM-01 26 'Sweety *' Nice pad with a belly attack. The pad fades in a breathy tone after a while. RAM-01 27 'Daleks!! *' EXTERMINATE!! (A Wheel Killer!) RAM-01 28 'Spags *' Hard but nice crossfading pad. Aftertouch closes the fliter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope you can find a use for 'em.
