Owain F Pedgley's Demo Bank of Wavestation Performances Date made public: 29 Oct 1995 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I have compiled the file "pegs-ws1.syx" so that you can have a taste of my home brew when it comes to programming the Wavestation. I am submitting this in direct response to the requests, discussion etc.. on the Wavestation Mailing List. The drive to get more patches on the 'net is extremely well founded, and I am happy to participate. THE RAW SYSEX FILE IS ADDRESSED TO RAM BANK1 ON MIDI CHANNEL 1 All of the patches use just the internal (expanded) PCM data, except for a few of the basses, which use Synth & Time Slice Waves because these were easily the best for the sound I was looking for. Sorry for all those folks who don't have this very-hard-to-come-by card, but that's the way it goes :( I'm sure you can tweak the patches so that they work for you....S & T Performances are marked with an "*". Just a brief overview of the sounds: These are a selection of my own-making, although you will notice that some of them address ROM based sequences etc.. I have included a wide variety of what I class as my "quite good" sounds, to see what you think. In general, I am pretty liberal with the reverb and tend to like to use EQ a bit. I like exploring the Wavestation's effects, since these are SUPERB IMHO. Some of my patches are reliant on effects to make them work, but don't let that put you off.. Please email me any comments at:- o.f.pedgley@lut.ac.uk I claim (c) to the patches as they stand, but feel free to doctor them !! -------- Owain ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:00 "TightsTempest" This short synth stab has a very fast attack and uses multiple oscillators running the same PCM to produce a phased effect. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:01 "Analogue Rezz.." The key to controlling this little monster is a combination of HIGH key velocity and twiddling the MOD WHEEL at the same time. I reckon it's got a fairly good analogue feel, with the WHEEL controlling the hot spot on the effect. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:02 "Overdrive Fling" A very gritty synth sound, heavily distorted and great for pumping out a driving rhythm. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:03 "Sanctuary Choir" One of my more inspired choral patches, best played as two- fingered chords around middle C. Try playing long and short chords, as both work well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:04 "Filter Pizzio" I like this one a lot: it's got a soothing quality because of the low-pass filter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:05 "Weather" Yep, it's a wavesequenced wind coming up tunnel, complete with dual mono delay to give it some space in the mix. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:06 "ReflectChorGuit" This is supposed to be a chorused guitar in a room, but make of it what you will! I think chords around middle C work ok. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:07 "StrutYaStuff" Mad patch. MOD WHEEL controls speed of rotary speaker and adds a huge amount of reverb. Great fun, though. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:08 "Air/Bass Split" A very playable combination. Best to play the bass part fairly lightly.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:09 "ClearDigiPiano" A nice and open DigiPiano, good for a relaxing mood.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:10 "Don'tSkidTheBog" It's "The Wave Song" played down the toilet! The MOD WHEEL cuts out quite a bit of the reverb. This was for fun only, honest. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:11 "Massive Synth" This has got to rank among my favourites. It's got a very powerful sound and is perfect for pretending you are on stage with Jean Michael Jarre. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:12 "Symphonetta 2" I was in two minds whether to put this on this demo collection, but hey, you want some good sounds out of me don't you! I don't want to blow my own trumpet too much, but I think this is one of the best orchestral "all in one" sounds I have come across on any synth. Very lush and full, and surprisingly smooth at the bottom end. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:13* "Imposter Bass 2" A VERY deep bass, guaranteed to do some damage to your speaker system, so be careful. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM 01:14 "Mad Dawg Bounce" This is a light-hearted electric/acoustic piano combination which bounces along quite nicely. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:15 "Vince" Had to do something to acknowledge my admiration for Mr. Vince Clarke, he of Erasure fame. This patch is cool for erasure- esque ditties. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:16 "SequenceSynth" You may have noticed that up until now, a lot of my patches have not been using prolific wavesequences. A lot of my earlier stuff tended not to... Anyway, this is a fairly recent patch which has a couple of wavesequences banging around at the lower octaves and an airy timbre on higher octaves. The vector control modifies the wavesequence mix and the MOD WHEEL controls phaser speed and depth. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:17 "Road Sweeper" A comprehensive resonant sweep patch, just hold it down for a long while and it'll go full circle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:18 "Real Juicy Pad" Almost hot off the press, this one. The MOD WHEEL MUST BE UP to have the full effect of this smooth lush pad. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:19 "What on EARTH?" Crazy. Use the MOD WHEEL to turn the monster on and off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:20 "Messenger Flute" The flutescape has an extra helping of vibrato if the MOD WHEEL is introduced. I really like this one. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:21* "AnalogueHipBass" Have the MOD WHEEL DOWN or this sounds far too wobbly. I did this patch with the intention of simulating a serious analogue squidge factor. The squidgy effect is produced using KEYDN as the modulating source for the parametric EQ. Enjoy squidging! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:22 "Suit You Sir,Oh" Vocoder variation on "The Wave Song" with the correct delay set for a duration of 9 on the wavesequence. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:23 "Slow Hall Piano" Take it gently and slowly........ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:24* "Fx-Bus SpltBass" The FX Bus has been programmed here so that one half of the keyboard plays out of one ear and the other half out of the other ear. Moreover, each half of the keyboard has been modified so that it plays the same range of notes. A parametric eq has been added for more squidge factor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:25 "File" Very raspy sound, good around middle C, and not just a hint DX-7 ish. Have the MOD WHEEL DOWN. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM 01:26 "Shine On Analog" Finally, my tribute sound to Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. I have used a horn sound and combined this with re-triggerable monophonic play to produce a 70's sounding keyboard. Ranks highly amongst my "playable" sounds. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As a quick note, I use a Wavestation EX and have the S&T PCM card set. I have no other Wavestation-related PCMs, cards etc... I hope you enjoyed the sounds.
